Digital Marketing in September 2026: Search Has Changed – Has Your Marketing?

If you think digital marketing is still mainly about getting your website onto page one of Google, I’ve got some news for you.

The way people find businesses is changing.

AI-powered search is becoming part of everyday search behaviour, people are asking longer and more conversational questions, and platforms are increasingly using AI to decide what information, products and businesses to put in front of them.

So, if your digital marketing strategy hasn’t changed much in the last couple of years, now might be a good time to take another look.

SEO Isn’t Dead — But It Is Changing

I’ve heard “SEO is dead” more times than I care to remember.

It isn’t.

What is changing is how people search.

Google’s AI-powered search experiences are allowing people to ask more complex questions and continue a conversation rather than simply typing a few keywords into a search box.

That means businesses need to think beyond individual keywords.

Your website needs to answer the questions your customers are actually asking.

Clear information, useful content, genuine expertise and a technically sound website still matter. In fact, I’d argue they matter more than ever.

AI Is Becoming Part of Digital Marketing

AI is now being built directly into advertising, analytics and marketing platforms.

Advertisers can use AI to help identify opportunities, create content, understand audiences and optimise campaigns. That’s useful — but there’s a danger of becoming too dependent on automation.

AI can help you market your business. It shouldn’t decide what your business stands for.

Your experience, personality and understanding of your customers are what make your marketing different from everyone else’s.

Use AI to save time and improve your marketing, but keep humans firmly in the driving seat.

Your Data Matters More Than Ever

One area I think businesses should pay much more attention to is their own data.

Website visitors, enquiries, customer behaviour, campaign results and sales information can tell you a huge amount about what’s actually working.

The problem is that many businesses still have this information scattered across different systems.

Good digital marketing isn’t just about generating more clicks.

It’s about understanding which activities generate genuine business results.

Don’t Chase Every New Trend

This is probably my biggest piece of advice for September 2026.

There will always be another AI tool, social platform or marketing trend telling you that you’ve found the next big thing.

You probably haven’t.

Start with your customers.

What are they searching for? What problems are they trying to solve? What makes them choose you? Where are potential customers dropping out of the buying process?

Then use technology to improve those areas.

The Future of Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is becoming more intelligent, more automated and, in many ways, more complicated.

But the fundamentals haven’t changed.

Understand your customer. Give them something useful. Build trust. Make it easy for them to take the next step. Then measure what happens.

The businesses that get this right won’t necessarily be the ones using the most AI.

They’ll be the ones using technology intelligently while still sounding like real businesses run by real people.

At Digitus Consulting, that’s how we approach Digital Marketing — combining modern technology with practical marketing that has a clear purpose and measurable business value.

If you’re wondering whether your digital marketing strategy is ready for 2026, let’s have a conversation.
